So it's official Silver Touch Events is officially my LLC. I didn't realize how easy it was to get an LLC, but it's through the state and there's an application and you just mail that and a $100 check and boom you have your own business. This makes sense to do especially for tax purposes. So I'm excited to be legit and have everything outlined and planned.
October 2nd is evidentally a busy wedding day this year. I got double booked, which is great because my girlfriend Hannah agreed to take on the second booking. Since I'm starting out and trying to build my business the way I want it to be and I am a bit of a control freak I wouldn't trust this with just anyone. Hannah is amazing and actually helped bring me into event planning at Nextel. She'll do a great job:).
The wedding that Hannah is going to be handling is in MD and it's a 50 person wedding. I've decided the best first step when working with a client is to establish a budget. There are so many vendors in this area and the price ranges can vary so it's best for everyone if we know what we're working with right off the bat. So this bride had a $500 budget for a photographer. Well in this area, photographer packages start at $1200 minimum. So I had the discussion with the bride and groom and just told them it was unrealistic. However, I do happen to know some photographers working on their portfolios and trying to break into the industry so after I ran it by the couple and they approved that was my new task. Secure an up and coming photographer for $500. I reached out to a few people I know and got a contract for the couple. They are thrilled! Makes me happy because I can help someone launch their career while doing my job and making the couple happy:).

New Ventures!
I thought I should start my blog by introducing myself. My name is Kelly and I've been doing corporate event planning for over 7 years now and started doing wedding planning on the side around the same time. All my event planning was through my full time job and/or referrals from family, friends, co-workers, etc. So I have never had to network or market so about 2 weeks ago I decided I was going to start doing that and see if I could grow a little business. Along with this business comes the need for things I hadn't worried about in the past, such as contracts, outlines, LLC, etc. So over the past two weeks I've mostly worked on administrative things to legitimize my business. However, over these past two weeks I've also had a contract signed and have potentially 2 more coming. So business is looking good=). I'm very excited for my upcoming events too.
Since this is the beginning of me launching my business I'm sure things will change but for now I wanted to have a name that meant something to me. My maiden name is Silverthorne and my mom is court reporter and always told me and my sisters that if one of us were to become a court reporter that she would open a company called Silver Touch Court Reporting. Of course, none of us became court reporters but the name Silver Touch sounds appropriate for wedding planning and I can honor my moms vision so I decided that would be the name. Plus, as every bride knows it's kinda hard to lose your last name when you get married so I find myself hanging onto it whenever I can.
The idea of a logo was overwhelming to me. I'm sure I'll budge on that too but for now I wanted something that again was personal to me and that represents who I am. The picture I use on most everything is a picture from my wedding of my husbands hand on top of mine while I hold my bouquet. We've been married for almost 4 years now and we have a 2 (almost 3) year old son. Next week we are hosting a 3rd birthday brunch for our son so I'm working on fun details for that right now. I'll post pictures once everythings set up.
Thanks for viewing my blog and I'll try to post some fun things and keep it entertaining! If you know of any friends in the Northern VA area planning a wedding a corporate event please direct them to my website: http://www.silvertouchevents.com/
