This year with being 6 months pregnant I decided we were going to go somewhere and have them do most of the work but of course I had to add some of my own personal touches!!!

Dylan decided he wanted a bowling party. So I decided on black, white & red as the colors and made some cupcake toppers and that was going to be all I was going to do... yeah right! Then I decided I wanted a really cool cake- this is where the outsourcing comes in because I can't bake! So I had a friend (who doesn't have a website yet so if anyone wants her information just shoot me a note) make him a bowling cake. For the favors I found these adorable bowling water bottles. I made a banner which was cool to hang right above the lockers they had there.
That evening we let Dylan decide where he wanted to go to dinner and he chose a Japanese steakhouse- he loves hibachi style where they cook the food in front of us and he LOVES trying to catch the shrimp in his mouth. So when his birthday was finally over and we were reflecting we realized we did 5 celebrations!!! I guess mommy is feeling a little guilty about the new baby coming and overcompensating by spoiling him rotten... Now it's time for damage control!!!Silver Touch Event Planninghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829306031405419846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3143669835274912135.post-1122635123168140992012-10-08T12:00:00.000-07:002012-10-08T12:03:24.654-07:00Brown's Chapel... I love this picture so much because obviously it's a beautiful picture but it's one of those pictures I just know the bride will look at for years to come and smile remembering that special day. Susan was such a great bride to work with. She wanted this wedding to be intimate and small, just very close friends and family. She found me through my blog (which is ironic bc my blog is not very impressive!). She saw pictures from the last wedding I did at Brown's Chapel and contacted me to try to re-create a similar look. The cool thing about Brown's Chapel is it is just a square room that you really have to transform yourself. It's not a grand ballroom or a place where weddings are done daily so it's very unique and fun.

I loved the intimacy of this wedding, as I said small group but both Susan and Gary's children were involved the ceremony and even their little puppy was involved- very cute! When Susan and I started planning she wanted to do a bbq style reception outside brown's chapel with a tent, food, music, etc. Unfortunately that isn't allowed so we looked into some other options. Susan landed on a luncheon at McCormick & Schmick's. I've done a lot of corporate events there so I knew the rooms pretty well but Susan and I met so she could check it out and she loved it. It was perfect for her group.

The day was perfect, the weather was nice, not too hot. Everyone was just so happy. It really was a wonderful wedding. Here are some pictures that Lori & Ashley (http://www.capturedbyla.com/) let me share:
So it's official I am a HORRIBLE blogger! As I find myself bundled up in a sweater today avoiding the freezing weather outside I think about how quickly summer came & went. This summer I had the pleasure of working two amazing weddings... Figured it's time I blog about them...

I attended the rehearsal for Ed & Catherine in Alexandria on a Friday evening in June. On my way home I swung by my parents house for dinner and a quick visit then headed home so I could rest up for the big day I had ahead of me. On the way home things were flying across the road and my dad called me to tell me I was driving straight into a tornado- luckily I was near a friends house and was able to take cover. Turns out it was a Derecho Storm. I was able to get home safely and get a good night sleep. The next morning I woke up to get ready for the wedding and heard of massive power outages everywhere. I immediately called the church & hotel where the wedding was taking place to make sure everything was working and luckily everything was fine. There were hotels surrounding them though that were out of power. It was very lucky that their day went smoothly and for the most part unaffected by the strong storms. Catherine was a beautiful bride and Ed a very handsome groom. Their wedding was a lot of fun!!! Here are some pictures I got permission to share:
For the 1st year I thought we might be good on the rules, but we ended up having 2 small rules to add. The rule book is now 2 pages but I think we have everything covered for next year... Now I can start my book on how to host a beer pong tournament. Pretty sure I won't have any competitors in the slim market of people who are crazy enough to subject their house to a beer pong tournament. This was the 3rd year and every year it gets easier.
As this event is VERY classy I thought what more appropriate then a trophy where we could whip up their name on a label maker and slap it on there that night so they could go home and proudly display their amazing accomplishment!

It's funny to tell people you host a beer pong tournament because people literally look at you like you're insane. Then when you explain how it all works it sounds like a ton of organization goes into it, which it does but it's pretty easy at this point. I've had people tell me I should write a manual or make it part of my event planning- so here it is- anyone who wants to host a beer pong tournament let me know- I've got some tips!
As a result my blog hasn't been updated in quite some time. So I thought I would summarize my weddings from this summer in one posting. As this is my side job I usually only take on a few weddings each year and this year was the perfect amount.

I started the season in May with a wedding downtown. The couple (Pepper & Dave) were great. The wedding was at Georgetown Presbyterian Church with the reception at the Park Hyatt, Washington. I haven't received any photos from their photographer but was hoping to before posting because I'm sure they were gorgeous. I also saw the photographer taking some very creative photos.

In September it was off the Outer Banks for a beach wedding. My husband and I got married in the Outer Banks and I had a HORRIBLE wedding planner so I was so happy to plan this one. Naomi & John are from New York and her father arranged the catering with High Cotton BBQ which was great. Originally Naomi was talking about not getting a photographer. I think a photographer is one of the most important vendors for a wedding because in the end it's what you have to look back on the day with. I reached out to Rich Coleman of Coleman Shots and I'm SO happy I did. Rich was very willing to work with the budget we had and they did an AMAZING job! Here's a link to Coleman Shots: http://colemanshotsweddings.com/

My main job was to transform the pool/deck area that was a scene from Spring Break all week (about 30 twenty-somethings staying in the house) to a wedding venue. All I had to work with was the tables and the table cloths Meagan had brought. I brought some paper lanterns that I knew we could somehow use. I wish I had a before shot to share but I don't so you'll have to use your imagination here.

About a year ago I had a bride reach out to me about planning her wedding. She didn't even know what venue she wanted or didn't have any vendors. I did full service wedding planning for her and her now husband, Erin & Jesse. When Erin called me and didn't have a venue I started asking her what her vision was. Based on a series of questions I asked I got a good idea of what she was looking for. I suggested she check out Oxon Hill Manor in Maryland. I set up an appointment for her to go check it out. She loved it! So Oxon Hill it would be. It was a great start because I think I earned her trust pretty early on so when I suggested vendors she took my advice. I suggested Astrid Woltering as her photographer and put her in touch with Meagan Hegenbarth from RSVP catering. Her photographs are breathtaking and the food at her wedding was great. Here's a link for Astrid: http://www.myastrid.com/

Erin was great to work with because she was so organized, which makes the whole process easier. Their wedding was supposed to be outside in the garden but the day of her wedding it was raining. I saw Erin the morning of her wedding as she was getting ready and broke this news to her and she was very confident in me and laid back about it. So we moved things around and at Oxon Hill you can easily do that as they have so many beautiful rooms to work with. Everything went very smoothly and the bride & groom seemed very happy. Here are some detail photos from the wedding:
He wanted a superhero birthday party. He's switched day cares so he has his old friends and new friends plus his neighborhood friends so limiting the guest list was going to be hard. Also the idea of the parents dropping off the kids leaving me in charge of a bunch of 4 year olds was a little terrifying. We often do culdesac happy hours at our house and Dylan loves them and calls them "his parties" so I thought we'd do a big culdesac happy hour/superhero party so we could invite everyone and the parents would stay too.

So I decided I was going to do primary colors with a splash of multiple superheros. So I started making the invitations and decided it would be cool to make each kid a superhero cape. There was about 35 kids invited though so I didn't want to go all out and spend hundreds of dollars making these so I found this video on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1l-WWywx1U. So it was very inexpensive to make these part of the invitation bags. And they turned out really cute!!!
I figured we would have about 100 people and we were going to be feeding them all dinner so my husband actually came up with the idea of individually wrapping the hamburgers/cheeseburgers and hot dogs in aluminum foil so we could put them in tubs rather than having the meat sit out- it would help keep them fresher. So I bought some primary color tubs and made a label for each with a superhero background on the label.
I was exhausted but it was worth it!!!Silver Touch Event Planninghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829306031405419846noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3143669835274912135.post-17048386063221388412011-07-16T08:55:00.000-07:002011-07-16T08:55:45.772-07:00Minute to Win It Game NightIt was about the time again for the JMU2KPF crew to get together for a couples board game night. This time we went with something a little different. We did a Minute to Win It Challenge. Setting it up was fun and easy. If you go on the shows website: http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/how-to/ they show all the challenges and there are a lot that are easy to do with household items. In the show if you don't complete the challenge in a minute you get eliminated. Since technically a team could get eliminated after the first challenged we figured that wasn't very fun so we played like this:

- Each team picks a team member to complete the challenge for their team.
- Each team is timed and if they do not complete the task in a minute the team receives 0 points for that challenge.
- The team that completes the task in the least amount of time gets the most possible points. For example, we had 5 teams so the best possible score for each challenge was 5 points. So team with lowest time gets 5 points, then 4, then 3 and so on.
- At the end the team with the highest score wins (in our case- the Cushmans).

We did the following challenges:

- Going the Distance
- Baby Blockin
- A Bit Dicey
- Elephant March
- Caddy Stack
- Defying Gravity
- Breakfast Scramble
- Noodling Around

We altered some of them a bit to fit our space and equipment needs. There are so many options that I'm sure we'll be doing this again with different challenges. It was a really fun night. We had 5 teams (couples- so 10 people total) which I would recommend (maybe 6 couples MAX).

This would also be a great team building activity for corporate events and perfect for birthday parties for older kids.
She lives in New York City and decided not to register for gifts due to space. Since you can't really ask for money we had to come up with a theme that would hopefully get her stuff that would be helpful for her wedding. So we decided a stock the bar theme would be a good idea and we could make a game out of it. Our friends aren't big on the bridal shower games so this one was different and fun.

Each person who received an invitation was put into a category (Rum, Vodka, Tequila, Riesling or Chardonnay) of alcohol per the brides choice of what to serve at the wedding. Each person was to decorate their bottle and they would be competing for best bottle against everyone in their category. Another one of my girlfriends mom's donated perfume bottles for each of the winners- so the prizes were good. The bottles were amazing, people got really into it which made it really fun. One of my moms bottles won and she gave me her prize so I have a nice bottle of Burberry Brit that I'm enjoying!

The shower was cocktail-style. I made a HUGE beverage dispenser of Sangria and we had mimosas. The colors were black and white with a splash of turquoise. Everyone was just mingling and hanging out- which I always find to be the most enjoyable part of the showers. I got Naomi to walk around to each category and pick her favorite bottle. Then we announced the winners and they got their prizes. The weather was very cooperative so it didn't take long for the party to move to the deck. A bottle of Patron was opened and a round of shots began. Then one of the other bridesmaid had a great idea to go around the table and everyone say what they loved about Naomi. It was a really fun, personal and intimate bridal shower.

Here are some pictures of the decor, theme and details I wanted to share.
This month my schedule is crazy, I have a wedding coming up next weekend and then am planning a bridal shower and bachelorette party the following weekend. To add to that my son has been invited to 6 birthday parties over the next 3 weekends. SIX!!! That's how is always is though- we have nothing going on and then everything happens at once. I'm an adrenalin junkie though so I'm actually excited about it all.

The warmer weather is coming so my sanity is creeping back- my son can play outside- whoo hoo! The winter months I find extremely challenging to entertain him while at the same time trying to expend some of his energy. I felt like we hadn't done anything in a while specifically for him so one weekend in March I decided I was going to arrange a playdate for him. As a working mom I have guilt about not being able to do playdates with him or take him to the pool in the summer, so I like to go all out for him when I can. Of course I went a little over the top but my son was so excited and he was helping me set everything up for his little buddies to come over. He was jumping around the house and kept asking when they were coming- so I was happy to see him so happy:).

I love kids parties because no rules apply in terms of decorating. You don't have to worry about being "tacky" or if things match perfectly. The more of the theme you can tie in the better- it's stimulation for the kids and they LOVE it! So we grabbed a bunch of my son's Toy Story stuff to set the mood in their "theater".

Then it was time for the spread. I had bought some toy story confetti, plates and napkins and made a little snack table for them. Party City had these awesome plastic Toy Story cups for $1 each (they also have them for other themes: Batman, Superman, etc. my son now has a bunch!). So we filled those cups with popcorn for each kid. Then I made a bunch of PB&J's and put out some cheeseballs.

So there were seven 3-4 year olds and the kids watched almost the entire movie before wanting to move on to something else so it was a great Saturday activity. I also gave each kid a little present as a thank you for coming to our playdate. They were these Toy Story 3 coloring activity things with Toy Story 3 markers.

My son totally thought it was his birthday party! After everyone left he was like "Why didn't they sing happy birthday to me with cake?" So I explained to him that it wasn't his birthday and that for his birthday we would do something even better- so he has since been telling me about his Superhero Birthday party! Which is still 3 months away but it's never to early to start planning:).Silver Touch Event Planninghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829306031405419846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3143669835274912135.post-88665587226475662572011-02-23T14:03:00.000-08:002011-02-24T07:35:11.361-08:00Throwing a Sprinkle Shower...Etiquette tells us that's it's not proper to have a baby shower every time you're pregnant. YES ladies, you get ONE baby shower, typically for the first born. The only times it's acceptable to have another full blown shower is if it's a re-marriage and the first baby for the couple together. OR if this was a 10 year later "oops thought we were done and gave away all the baby stuff". What if you registered for all pink stuff the first time around because you were having a girl and this time you're having a boy and everything you own is pink? The solution to this common problem is a "sprinkle". A Sprinkle by definition is a small scale shower. Why wouldn't we celebrate baby #2, 3 or 4? All babies are a reason to celebrate. So right now I'm planning a sprinkle with a few girlfriends for our friend pregnant with her 2nd.

It's basically 5 couples and we thought since it's more intimate we would include the guys. I know my husband is always asking why he can't come with me to these baby and bridal showers. I think the guys feel like they miss out on something- so we're going to get onesies and make all the guys play a little "shower game" to show them just what they're missing while us women head out to these "parties". The mom to be will have to pick a winning onesie based on the guys designs. We'll do a little game called "Name the baby mama and daddy" where everyone will have to name the parents of the famous children pictured.

We're doing a brunch and I started thinking of what cute things I could do to tie in the baby shower-ish theme. I love all the do-it yourself ideas there are out there. I'm not that good at them but I still love looking around and getting ideas. Here are some cute ideas I found (keep in mind this sprinkle is for a baby boy):
I love the feeling of having friends and family gathered within my walls and seeing people laugh and have a good time. In the summer it's easy because we can use the deck and that opens up a lot more space. The winter is a little tougher as people tend to gather in the kitchen at house parties and our kitchen isn't very big/open. So I had told my husband that was the one thing I didn't like about our house was I didn't feel like we could have a party with that many people because it would start to feel crowded. The only way a larger party would work at our house was if we somehow created a flow where people used our other rooms. So we started throwing around ideas- A Texas Holdem tournament-which we still haven't done-but I plan to do eventually. Then we talked about a beer pong tournament. We started talking about this last January and I immediately kicked into high gear with how to do this. My husband took care of the rules and we tossed around a few ideas of bracket style. We quickly learned that bracket style requires a specific number of teams and it would be too difficult to get pre-committments- then what if there were no shows? It became really complicated. So we decided just to do pools (4 pools) and within each pool it would be a round robin to determine the top 2 teams from each pool that would advance to the final 8 single elimination bracket.

Then came the question of how do we keep this sanitary? Last year with the swine flu in full swing this was important as most of the people coming were parents of young kids. So we decided for sanitary reasons and keeping our home from having beer spilled all over it we'd play with water cups. So every team would "register" when they registered they would pay their entry fee (which would go into the winners pot) and get a clear cup with a "drink line" that would be their drinking cup. They would also be assigned a pool at that time. This way we could fill the pools as people came and get even numbers of teams in each pool. We set up one pool in the living room, 1 in the garage and 2 in the basement. Each pool had 2 tables to play on so the games would go quicker.

Basement- 2 pools (4 tables)

On each table was a pitcher with balls, rules and a scorecard. Prior to each game the teams would fill the pitchers so they could use that to fill their drink cups as needed throughout the game. Although they should only need 2 balls per table we put in 4 for back-up. Each team kept track of their own history- who they played (have to play everyone in their pool once) and whether they won or lost. The rules were posted throughout the house (and also sent as an attachement on the email prior to the tournament) but by having a printout handy on each table- teams were able to refer to them quickly as needed.

So last year my husband and I spent 2 weeks talking about logisitics, details, etc. We decided since Valentine's Day was coming up we could do a Valentine's Day tournament. Sounds Romantic? Well most people are going to get a sitter and go do something so why not enter a competition as a couple and possibly win some money? Last year we had 20 teams. We just had this years tournament for this year and ended up with 23 teams! Since last year was the 1st year there wasn't too much participation in the "Team Uniforms" but we still had some great ones... So this year we decided it would be fun to encourage that more and offer a returned entry fee for the best team Gear/Attire. We had some great competition this year so my hubby and I didn't win BUT I think ours was the most Valentine's Day themed so I'm posting our pic:)

So our layout for the flow was great- there was nothing going on in the kitchen. I also decided to keep all the food (light apps- since everyone had eaten dinner) in the dining room. Since the pool in the garage and living room would be getting beer from the keg on the deck wanted to keep the kitchen as open as possible for through traffic. People always tend to gather around the food- so by moving all the food into the dining room it helped open up the kitchen a bit. So the night before the tournament (since I'm a little anal) I set up the dining room table and labeled the platters with where each app I was preparing would go- so it was a reminder for myself. The day of for any event always throws you some surprises so I find it best to be as prepared and organized as possible before the actual day.

Dining Room Table platters/labels

I know beer pong isn't the classiest or mature type of party (and a few years ago I would've thought for sure I wouldn't be having this type of party in my home) but it's fun and it really does compliment my house and creates a comfortable flow for a party of that size. At one point I think we had almost 60-70 people in our house and I never felt crowded. It was also a pretty easy clean up since it was kegs. There aren't many opportunities to get kegs anymore so this is also perfect for that:). The winners last night went home with over $300. The runners up got their entry fees back and best attire got theirs back as well- so for some couples it was a VERY Happy Valentine's Day- a VERY Profitable one for the winners:).

Looking forward to a nice relaxing night tomorrow night to celebrate with my valentine:) Happy Valentine's to everyone.
ANY EVENTAmazon wish lists were something I saw a lot of this holiday season and I think it's great. Especially for the kids. It's so hard to keep up with what they want/need vs. already have. Let's be honest too parents don't want everyone getting them the biggest bulkiest item out there either. So it's nice for people to use a wish list, just as with a wedding or baby registry.

My girlfriend lives in NYC and is getting married in September. She doesn't want to register because they already live together so they have everything they need and they don't have anywhere to store china or a cupcake tier. BUT proper etiquette tells us it's inappropriate to ask for money. So what's the solution? I've sent this website to a few brides now and think not only for brides but birthday parties, showers, etc. It works for any event.

http://www.ourwishingwell.com/

So you can allocate money towards certain things. For example, you can say POTS and PAN set and put that you want $500 towards that. It's great because someone only looking to spend $100 can put $100 towards it and feel like they are contributing to a bigger ticket item. Also, in the end- it's all money for the bride and groom to use with it what they want. A lot of couples even put "Money for our Honeymoon" and people like contributing to that. The registrant isn't limited to the specific items in a store and the purchasers can choose whatever they want to contribute to and in the end get people a gift they really want/need.

I think it's a great website and wanted to share:)Silver Touch Event Planninghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829306031405419846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3143669835274912135.post-88355317100138124272010-12-21T15:56:00.000-08:002010-12-21T15:56:57.198-08:00Congratulations to our December drawing winner...

Silver Touch Event Planninghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829306031405419846noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3143669835274912135.post-7259267351673268202010-12-08T08:15:00.000-08:002010-12-08T08:15:57.058-08:00Happy Holidays- December DrawingThis time of year seems to fly by. With the cold weather in full swing, Dylan has been a tornado of energy and it's too cold to let him run wild outside and get rid of some of it. So I decided this weekend I was going to arrange a play date for him. He hasn't seen a few buddies in a few weeks and he's been asking about them and I told him I'd talk to their mommies and set something up. We've been reading lots of holiday themed books and talking about baking gingerbread men cookies and he's been really into the Christmas decorations and all the little festive things. So I asked him if he wanted to do some holiday crafts like make an ornament for the tree- he acted really excited. So I decided I was going to do a holiday craft play date.

Since the age group is 3-4 year olds I figured let's steer clear of the glitters and paints- just for my own sanity. Also, I didn't want to have endless crafts because I figured the kids would be over and done with the crafts within 30 minutes- I think the boys lasted 17 minutes- but it was fun while it lasted. So here are the crafts we did:
The places they have been together become important parts of their relationship. We're seeing travel themed weddings are big for these types of couples as well as couples opting for a destination wedding. Here are some great ways brides and grooms are tying their love for travel into their weddings.
You step outside at 5pm and it's dark. You get in your car and hear Christmas music? I had to stop for a second this morning when I heard Jingle Bells on the radio. I was like omg what month is it? Then I realized, thanksgiving is 2 weeks from tomorrow!!! This is the time of year where time seems to FLY by.

I've been trying to plan little fun activities for Dylan. This summer we did a lot of cupcake decorating- which he loves to do! I love it too because it's an inexpensive activity that is great to do on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon on the deck. So I was thinking about what Thanksgiving activity I can do with him. This morning I popped open face book and saw on my news feed my friend Kelly had posted pictures of Thanksgiving cupcakes she made, these are so cute I had to share:
(Vanilla Cupcake, chocolate frosting, nutter butters, oreos and candy corn- some gel icing to decorate the face).
This concept was introduced to me by a friend of mine. So I started thinking wow that's a cool idea- rather than sitting in a sonogram room with a doctor who tells people this news a hundred times a day why not make the discovery even more special. So here's how it works- when you get the sonogram ask them to put it in an envelope (sealed) then immediately go to the grocery store or bakery and tell them you want them to open the envelope and if it's a boy use blue icing or cake in the middle of the cake. If it's a girl you want them to use pink. You can have fun with the outside of the cake too- like this:

Invite your family and closest friends over to your house for a "Reveal Party". As your guests enter your house have them guess the sex by putting their name in either your girliest stiletto or his manliest loafer.

After the sex is revealed you can do a random drawing out of the winning shoe and give out a fun gag gift. You can also do this for a baby shower- keep all the gifts gender neutral and give the host of the shower the envelope and she can mix a gift in with the rest of the gifts so as you open the gifts you will open one that says "congratulations on your baby (girl or boy)" with some gender specific items. This works well with a co-ed bridal shower.

I don't watch but for anyone that watches the Duggar Family- Josh Duggar and his wife Anna found out the sex of their baby (girl- note the pink cake) via the cake reveal on the Today Show:
Such a fun idea:)Silver Touch Event Planninghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05829306031405419846noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3143669835274912135.post-85416877950628237242010-11-06T10:48:00.000-07:002010-11-06T10:50:48.998-07:00How to Host a Boardgame Night:)Every few months we host a board game night with a few of our couple friends. Might not sound that exciting to everyone but for this married mom living in suburbia this is one of those events I really look forward to. There a few keys to a successful board game night for us, they are as follows:

1. Keep the group small/intimate- 4 or 5 couples MAX otherwise too much going on.
2. Make sure everyone coming likes playing board games
3. Drinks and food available
4. Pack and Plays, monitors, etc. for babies/kids that are coming so parents can relax and enjoy
5. Provide options for games and let everyone decide
6. Pajama theme works well- everyone is comfortable and it keeps it casual

Dylan loves when he gets to hang out with baby Bryce and McKinnley (pictured below) which is good because he gets to a lot because we hang out with their parents a lot. Conveniently we are all in the same neighborhood too now which makes things so much easier. Everyone trickled in around 730pm. I had a few appetizers out but nothing to heavy since everyone had eaten dinner. Also, it was a Friday night and my cooking is not the greatest so I went for easy store bought taquitos which are my new favorite appetizer. So the first hour serves as a cocktail hour/letting the kids hang out. And of course- making sure we get a picture of the kids:)
So we start getting the kids to bed. Mine of course caused the most problems, but finally they're all down and we're ready to play. We started with the Game of Things, which is an awesome game! HIGHLY recommend. The game can get very racy- which with this drinking crew it did quickly- but lots of laughs! That's an individual game so when we finished with that we decided it was time for a team game- rather than couples we did boys vs. girls in Cranium. The girls DOMINATED. By the time we ended Cranium it was after midnight. We did a little Bizz Buzz then Catch Phrase. I threw in some late night frozen pizzas then I had to put myself to bed before the Mario Kart tournament started in the basement. I think Nic came to bed around 2:30am. He's feeling great today:(

This is one of my favorite events to host because it's so easy, inexpensive and a really great time. Since the weather is getting cold social events seem to die down a bit which I think can be a little depressing so this is a great way to get a small group together still. And an event where you can bring the kids- so no paying for a babysitter- which is key:).
So I started thinking about what would be a good drawing to do for November. Something again that I could mail in case the winner isn't local. So I started thinking about something that would be useful but also somehow tie into either Thanksgiving or the month of November. As I was doing some research I ran across an article about how Thanksgiving and Black Friday are the two busiest days of the year for movie theatres. So I thought- PERFECT! I'll do ONE drawing for 2 free movie passes.

So here's the deal- VERY EASY- just comment on this post saying you want to enter the drawing (YOU MUST BE A FOLLOWER OF THIS BLOG) and your comment will be your submission. Submissions are due by midnight on Friday, November 19th. That way I'll have time to mail the tickets and the winner can have them in time for Thanksgiving:).

These movie vouchers are good at all Regal Cinemas, Edwards Theatres and United Artist Theatres. They never expire and the only limitation is it cannot be used for IMAX or 3-D.
For those of you that read my earlier post I was really excited when I walked into this church and realized it was an empty square room and I had about an hour and half to transform this onto a beautiful place for a wedding. The chairs that were there were black fold down chairs that weren't very pretty so I started by covering all of those with chair covers and sashes, then ran an aisle runner down the carpeted floor. The bride had ordered white drape and piping for the front/ "alter" area. When the flowers arrived I was so excited because they were so pretty and they had brought a lot of petals which I wanted to splash around the room.

The weather was great, the wedding was so intimate and the bride and groom were both glowing. It really was a beautiful wedding:). Here are some pictures that were provided by their photographer Vanessa Vick.
It was potluck style and we had houses ending in odd numbers bring a dessert and houses ending in even numbers bring a Snack/Appetizer. The food was great but the costumes and participation was even better. I was thankful that the South Riding pediatric dentistry donated little goodie bags so all the kids could get something... As I was announcing the winner for the contest I started feeling bad that we didn't get to give them all prizes because they were all so cute. Our judges panel did a great job though of picking the winners- and it was a tough job- lots of great costumes!

My husband (Nic) and his two buddies (Bryan and Jason) filled their truck beds with hay and we loaded up the trucks for hayrides and then the other kids paraded behind the hay rides. It was fun for the kids to get to strut around in their costumes. I was so busy with everything I forgot to take some pictures but here are some I was able to steal from others off face book.
My husband has been a groomsmen a few times and I wouldn't be surprised if he's pulled the show up with white socks on move for at least a few of them. Guys don't think about their socks and the fact that when they sit down their pant leg is going to rise and their socks will show. I'll admit I've done it too and looked down and realized I'm wearing 2 socks that don't even match (laundry is an issue in our house).

What a great idea to tack on a pair of socks as a "groomsmen gift" so all the groomsmen have matching socks for the wedding day. A nice pair of dress socks that helps compliment the wedding colors. This is trend that I'm sure photographers enjoy as well. Just another fun little detail for those fun couples out there that want to do something a little different.
